Well, first of all thank you so much to each one of you who liked and following my new blog :) I'm so much overwhelmed by your love..My friends are sending me good comments...appreciating me on starting this.. Thank u..  thanks much :) Happy happy me!! And to the next point..sorry for the poor quality picture. I started taking pictures with good lighting, exposure and moreover with good camera recently. This Bisi bele bath was made before that.. it's an instant mobile pic :P Sorry Sorry!!

It's only the picture not appearing good.. But it tastes like heavennn...mm..:) Anyway next time when I make, will click a good picture for u people... I promise!!  Bisi bele bath is a karnataka cuisine, a rice based dish with toor dal, spicy masala and veggies. Ok now let's start the workout !!

Yields : 4-5 servings

Ingredients :
1. Rice- 1 cup
2. Toor dal- 3/4 cup
3. Veggies of your choice- 1.5 cup (I used potatoes and carrots)
4. Tamarind - Gooseberry size soak in 1/4 cup of lukewarm water for 10 mins, filter and take the pulp out.
5. Onion or shallots - 1/2 cup chopped
6. Tomato - 1/4 cup chopped
7. Oil- 1-2 tbsp
8. Mustard- 1/2 tsp
9. Curry leaves - 1 sprig
10. Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
11. Sambhar powder- 1.5 tsp ( I personally added this to the recipe )
12. Salt - as per you need
13. Coriander leaves - 2 stalks
14. Ghee - 2 tbsp

Bisi bele bath powder ( to dry roast and grind ) :
1. Chana dal - 3 tsp
2. Urad dal - 3 tsp
3. Red chillies - 5
4. Cumin seeds - 1.5 tsp
5. Coriander seeds - 4 tsp
6. Cloves- 2
7. Cinnamon stick- 1 inch
8. Fenugreek seeds- 1/4 tsp
9. Asafoetida powder - a pinch
10. Fennel seeds- 3/4 tsp
11. Shredded coconut - 2 tbsp

**Dry roast the above ingredients until you get a nice aroma and grind. Keep your bisi bele bath powder ready !! :) (You can also make in big amount and keep it in an air tight container ;) )

** Wash and soak toor dal and rice for 30 mins

** Do the entire cooking in med or med-high flame for not to burn your bisi bele bath :D

**I added sambhar powder as well coz I didn't get the expected taste from adding bisi bele bath powder alone. May be I like my food to be a flavour-bomb :D So let's say this is my bisi bele bath with a twist !! :P :P You can skip sambhar powder if you want :)

** Take a medium to big pan/ pressure cooker for preparing :)

Method :
1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker add mustard. When they splutter add onions/shallots and curry leaves. Saute till onions/shallots turn out into a nice golden colour (Adding a pinch of salt makes this faster :D)
2. Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder and saute until it becomes nice tender and juicy.
3. Add the veggies and stir fry for 2 mins
4. Add **sambhar powder and bisi bele bath bowder at this stage. Saute for a min.
5. Now add rice and dal along with tamarind juice
6. Add 4.5 cups of water (If you add boiling water things are easy ;) You don't have to wait until it boils.. This hot water will give a quick boil :D )
7.Add required amount of salt and coriander leaves. Check for salt and spicy.
8. Close the lid and allow 4 whistles.
9. Add the ghee before serving :)

** You can also add fried cashews before serving.

Have this yum yum bisi bele bath with pappad or pickle.. :) :) Who wants an extra side like stir fry veggie when you are already having lotsa veggies in your bisi bele bath ?? :P
Think simple..make it simple!! :D :D Enjoy..... <3 :)
