Thatta payar/ vanpayar with veggies curry

So this would be my amma's next easy recipe thattapayar/brown beans with veggies curry... :) This is one of my favourite curries and I don't want any side for this. It tastes so so good... Every time, I make lots to have for the whole day.

I have started clicking step by step pictures for my recipes. Soon I will start posting the recipes with detailed pictures :)

Yields: 3-4 servings

Ingredients:
1. Thatta payar/ brown beans- 1/2 cup
2. Onion- 1 medium chopped
3. Tomato- 1 small chopped
4. Potatoes- 2 small chopped
5. Brinjal- 2 medium chopped
6. Tamarind- medium gooseberry size soaked in 4 tbsp lukewarm water
7. Green chillies- 2 medium slit
8. Garlic- 3-4 small pods
9. Curry leaves- 1 sprig
10. Coriander leaves- to garnish
11. Sambhar powder- 1.5 tsp
12. Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
13. Chilly powder- 1/4-1/2 tsp
14. Coriander powder- 1 tsp
15. Salt- to taste
16. Oil- 1.5 tbsp
17. Coconut oil- 1 tsp (optional)
18. Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
19. Hot water- 1- 1.5 cups
20. Sugar- a pinch

Method:
1. Thatta payar : Wash well and cook this in a pressure cooker by adding a pinch of turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp of sambhar powder, salt to taste and 1 - 1 1/4 cup water approx. or with enough water for 6-7 whistles and set aside to cool.
2. Simultaneously place a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds , curry leaves to splutter.
3. Add onion, garlic and green chillies. Saute well for 4-5 mins until onion is translucent.
4. Add 1 tsp of sambhar powder (we have added 1/2 tsp while cooking brown beans ;) ) and all the dry powders. Saute for a min.
5. Add tomato and saute well till it becomes tender.
6. Now add the veggies and saute for 2 mins till the skin color of brinjal changes and turn off the flame.
7. After the pressure release from the cooker, transfer the cooked mixture from pan to cooker.
8. Mix well along with some salt, switch on and allow 1 whistle for veggies to get cooked.
9. Switch off and allow to cool. When the pressure releases, open and add the tamarind juice and you can adjust the consistency of curry by adding some water. Also check for salt and spicy.
10. Let it boil for 2-3 mins and switch off. At last add a tsp of coconut oil, a pinch of sugar and garnish with coriander leaves.

Yummy yummy thatta payar curry is ready :) Have this with rice, wheat dosa, chapati.. :) :)
